A comparison
of lycopene and other phytochemicals in tomatoes grown under
conventional and organic management systems
H. Lumpkin. 2005.
Consumers today are looking to
add more lycopene into their diets to prevent cancer and cardiovascular
disease. Many health experts recommend increasing levels of dietary
lycopene through the consumption of tomatoes. In order to maximize
the content of lycopene in tomato, scientists worldwide are studying
the influences of agricultural practices and the environment.
Special varieties, irrigation practices, fertilizers, and environmental
conditions have been identified that enhance lycopene production.
This study investigates the effects that organic and conventional
cropping practices in Taiwan have on the content of lycopene
and other nutritional components in tomato. 60 pp. 1040 KB Download |
