Fertilization
Tomato Production

applying basal fertilizer

Tomato plants should be fertilized with organic (animal manure) and/or chemical fertilizers to produce high yields. A combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers is recommended.

Consider local soil conditions and cropping patterns when selecting fertilizer amounts. In the tropics, common fertilizer application rates are 60-120 kg N per hectare, 60-140 kg P2O5 per hectare, and 60-120 kg K2O per hectare. It is recommended that half of the fertilizer be applied as a basal dose and the remaining fertilizer be added after first fruit-set.
