Crucifer Diseases

White Spot
Pseudocercosporella capsellae

Found worldwide

Damage Symptoms

White spot is severe on turnip, Chinese cabbage, and mustard. The pathogen causes lesions on cotyledons, leaves, petioles and seed pods. The predominant symptom is leaf lesions which are round to irregularly shaped, white to tan spots about 5 to 10 mm in diameter. Lesions can be numerous and cause leaf death.

Severely damaged foliage

Conditions for Development

The fungus survives on crop debris, overlapping susceptible crops, and cruciferous weeds. Cool moist conditions favor development of this disease.

Control

Avoid planting overlapping crops of susceptible species in the same location. Allow sufficient time between crops for breakdown of crop debris in the soil.
